The government is already so far in debt that it might take the next 7 generations to pay it off, while the government continues to increase its debts ad nauseum. What happens when the government gets further in debt is that the purchasing power of Federal Reserve Notes is reduced, often dramatically. When there was silver in our coin, until the mid-60's, prices were relatively stable, and most families were single-earner families. Gasoline cost about 19 cents per gallon, and occasional "gas wars" brought it down to around a dime per gallon. Hamburger cost about 19 cents per pound, and the cost of burger and gas remained equal for many years. The tax bite from the average paycheck was around 7%, so nobody really raised a fuss about it. Today, it's more than 36% on average; it's time to make a fuss about it. Back then, dry cleaners had pickup and delivery services, and milk was delivered to our doorsteps daily. Gas stations were mostly service stations, and grocery stores offered charge accounts and free delivery. We had services in those days that have disappeared. They have disappeared along with the higher-paying manufacturing or mining jobs that formerly supported many of our communities, like the auto industry supported Detroit and Flint, Michigan.

Today, the government wants to repeat the mistakes of the '30's, by bailing out the banks and certain "important" corporations. The problem in that is that corporations can't vote, so they have no representation in Congress, and providing benefits for them at public expense is forbidden by the Constitution.

The solution to the problems created by paper money that was adopted by the founding fathers was to abolish paper, and coin money. They did that virtually overnight, in 1789, and the current gang could do the same thing. When they did, the managed to pay the debts off within 8 years, and remained out of debt until the Civil War. Paper money is debt money, not "real" or "lawful" money. It's commercial paper, which may be useful in commerce, but not lawful for the American government to pass of as "money". Letters to Congressmen and Senators, demanding that they commence coining money immediately, would have some impact. They do not listen to individuals, but they do respond to numbers.

The need for change is obvious, and the time is right. We need not yet take up arms, but we can challenge Congress to explain why we should pay them to do jobs they refuse to do.

Jack Cohen

Alter or Abolish

It's time for change. Governments today are treating us as their "subjects", in ways that would have been repugnant to King George. They treat us a though we were put on earth to serve them, instead of the other way around. The words of the Declaration of Independence are as true today as they were 200 years ago- "that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men...." It goes on to say that when they become abusive of that end, it is our right and our duty to alter or abolish them.

Whether by coup or by stealth, the federal government has shifted most of the legislative powers to the executive. Since Congress no longer coins money, it is forever trying to bail out the banks. Since Congress no longer declares war, the President makes war whenever he feels like it. We have to buy a permit from our states to drive our cars on our highways. We have to purchase the permit from the folks we pay to build and maintain our highways. Talk about wagging the dog!

Some time ago, I discovered that Congress repealed the internal revenue laws in 1939 and never re-enacted them. However, the government proceeds as though the repeal never took place. I find it repugnant that Congress responds to my letters requesting copies of the law IRS pretends to be enforcing with letters from Congressional Research Service stating "the tax laws are constitutional" just like the IRS. There is no taxing statute that would qualify as an "income tax".

If you like what happens here, tell your friends about this blog site.
